X-Men star Hugh Jackman has gone bald and his recent revelations about his skin cancer scare have got people wondering if his new look has anything to do with the disease.

Don't worry folks! The 45-year-old has actually shaved his head for his new role as Blackbeard in "Pan," directed by Joe Wright. The Australian native posted a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption: "Blackbeard is born. #PAN."

The Oscar-nominated actor's head is freshly shaven, contrary to the large amount of facial hair he's donning. It's a complete contrast from the full head of hair he was sporting just this Sunday when he hosted the 2014 Tony Awards.

Not that many details on the film have been provided except that shooting is already underway in London. Variety reports that the script is written by Jason Fuchs and "is set during World War II and follows an orphan who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland."

This is a complete 180 degree spin on his previous character, the bad-boy-fighting-for-good Wolverine featured in the recent release of "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The "Les Miserables" actor is the featured villain in the upcoming reboot of "Peter Pan".

The Huffington Post reports that Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman is confident that Jackman will give justice to the character. "We know he will create a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure," he said.  

The actor recently underwent an unplanned surgery on a basal cell carcinoma. Jackman believes his lack of prevention and attention to sun exposure and negligence of the importance of sunscreen led to the recent skin cancer scare.

He was in high spirits when People Magazine caught up with him revealing he's doing well but has a few remaining stitches. He confirms the cancer is gone and has made it a point to continuously get checked and stressed the importance of early detection.

"Tell all your readers: get checkups, wear sunscreen. It's all about prevention," said Jackman and put some humor saying: "I figure for some people reading it, if Wolverine says it, it might be different than if your parent or wife or husband says it."

Jackman has a jam-packed 2015. With the recent success of "Days of Future Past", along with "Pan," he has other projects lined up including the untitled Wolverine sequel along with another superhero installment  "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Aside from Jackman, "Pan" stars Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara and Levi Miller with the film set to open in theaters July 17, 2015.
