Most marriages in Hollywood fizzle out within the first couple of years, but stars Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith stood the test of time and managed to stay together for 18 years.
Sadly, 56-year-old Griffith has filed for divorce from her husband Antonio Banderas, 53, citing irreconcilable differences as their reason, repots TMZ.
In the court documents filed Friday by Griffith's lawyer, Laura Wasser, "The Working Girl" star is seeking both child support, spousal support and sole physical and joint legal custody of only child Stella, who evidently turns 18 this September.
No date of separation has been indicated but TMZ's sources indicate that "the divorce is amicable."
The news outlet goes on to note that in terms of asset division, the couple owns multiple properties in both the United States and Spain making the property situation a bit more complicated.
The couple has released a joint statement saying: "We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together - Melanie & Antonio"
The Daily Mail UK recalls that the last time the pair was seen together in public was during their return from a holiday trip to the Bahamas back in March.
However, back in May a photo of Banderas surfaced in a much to friendly embrace with another woman and in the same month, Griffith posted a puzzling Tweet https://twitter.com/MelanieGriffith saying, "Who believes in marriage and why? Or why not?"
The pair met and fell in love in 1995 on the set of their co-starred film "Too Much" while still married to other people. They eventually wed in 1996.
This split marks the second divorce for Banderas and the fourth for Griffith.
Nearly two decades in Hollywood is quite the feat. Hopefully this will all proceed as smoothly as possible.
