Married songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the musical geniuses behind Disney's "Frozen" hit song "Let it Go" are heading to the live stage.
The Oscar-winning songwriters are working on a stage musical titled "Up Here."
"As you can imagine with the Lopezes, it is witty, it is wicked smart, it is irreverent, and it's youthful in its energy. It will appeal to a broad audience but it certainly will be something that even millennials will relate to," Scott Sanders, the musical's producer, told the The Guardian.
In 2011, Lopez talked about "Up Here" in an interview with Playbill "It's kind of like 'Annie Hall' meets Cirque du Soleil. It's a romantic comedy, with a huge theatrical twist," he said. The play is also "the thing I've been most excited about for the last five years. I really can't wait for people to see this crazy vision," Lopez added.
He continued: "It's really hard to do an original musical that's big. I think Mormon would never have happened without Matt [Stone] and Trey [Parker] defending it closely. I mean, try to think of the last musical that's risky and big that you got to see? People are really, really scared to put their money in something like that, and rightly so. I'm hoping to resurrect that form."
The pair have a lot of project accomplishments including Lopez's work on "Avenue Q" and "The Book of Mormon" while Anderson-Lopez was a producer for Disney's animated film "Finding Nemo".
This opportunity doesn't mean that it's the end for Disney and the Lopezes, "We loved working with Disney. We had the best time working with them hope to have another chance to do it again," said the pair to Hitlix in an earlier interview.
"Up Here" will be a part of La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego by 2015 and will be directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers.
