NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick, has just signed a record deal contract extension worth $126 million over six years. The contract will carry though until the 2020 season with a guarantee of $61 million.

The contract pays the premier quarterback an average of $21 million annually with "rolling guarantees" that requires Kaepernick to be on the roster at a certain point of every year, a common practice in the league, writes Sports Illustrated

"Colin's hard work and dedication have played an integral role in the recent success of the 49ers organization," said Trent Baalke, the General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers.

"His work ethic, leadership and on-field production have positively influenced our team, and we look forward to his continued growth in all areas. Our organization always looks to reward our players for their contributions and commitment to the team. Colin's agents, Scott Smith and Jason Bernstein, along with Paraag Marathe and Brian Hampton, should be commended for working diligently to reach an agreement."

The 26-year-old was part of the 2nd round pick in 2011, 36th overall with a previous deal of $5.1 million where he soon became a team's superstar starting quarterback.

Compared to many other athletes who have tried to prove their game strategy throughout their entire career, Kaepernick was able to make significant contributions to the 49ers in just two seasons. Others defend that while he's got limited experience, he's a quick study and in his prime. ESPN comments, "The 49ers are built to win now, and they are built to win in the future. The fact that Kaepernick has been secured for the prime of his career at the going quarterback rate only improves San Francisco's chances. "

Speaking on the milestone agreement, "Well, I guess the only thing I can say is I'm going to work to try and make sure I'm worth every penny of this," said Kaepernick. "I'm going to try to win as many games as possible and help this team win as many games as possible. And, I think that's something I feel like I can do."

Do you think Kaepernick is worth the contract?
