Facing hard times and a large amount of debt, veteran actor Mekhi Phifer has filed for bankruptcy after reportedly owing money totaling approximately to $1.3 Million.

The breakdown of the amount, according to TMZ is as follows: $1.2 Million in back taxes, $50,000 in attorney fees and unpaid child support at $4,500. The documents obtained by the media giant reveals "he spends around $11,600 in monthly expenses, but pulls in only $7,500. "

In addition, TMZ writes that Phifer's assets include a leather bed, a 12-year-old Segway estimated to be worth about $1,500 and firearms that include a shotgun and two 9mm handguns. This is in addition to a 2003 Range Rover as another asset, says E! Online.

Phifer has two sons, 15-year-old Omikaye from his first marriage, and 6-year-old Mekhi from a previous relationship. Presently, the actor is married to Reshelet Barnes whom he married in April 2013, reports The LA Times.

The 39-year-old actor has been a mainstay professional in Hollywood with a number of accomplishments under his belt. He is known for being Dr. Greg Pratt on "ER", as well as appearances in movies like "8 Mile", and most recently, a role on the film "Divergent." He's also been appearing in TV series like Showtime's "House of Lies."

"Divergent" has brought in over $250 million worldwide and has been confirmed have a sequel titled "Insurgent" in 2015, in which Phifer will re-appear as Max, the leader of the Dauntless faction.

During an appearance on the Today Show last March, Phifer promoted the "Divergent" film and shared it was his son that knew about the young adult books of Veronica Roth.

The actor shares his son "was really excited" and "It was the first thing he's ever been excited about in my career ever! ... Now I'm cool, finally."

Hopefully with the continued work he'll be able to do for the "Divergent" franchise, Phifer will be able to get his affairs in order.
