Brace yourselves everyone, the era of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine may be coming to a close. What are the chances that Jackman's appearance in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will be the Australian's last time to play the role of Wolverine?
SFX is able to provide some answers for eager fans, following a recent interview with the 45-year-old actor regarding the latest "X-Men" film.
The actor hasn't confirmed if there will be a third installment to the immensely popular "Wolverine" franchise but has basically confirmed that if there will be one, the said film might be the final feature for him.
"I don't know yet. We're talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I'm 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me," replied Jackman when asked about what's next for "Wolverine."
In terms of progress for the possible next "Wolverine" film, Jackman says they're still in the process of discussing the different possible story lines and they're "still working it out."
The Oscar-nominated actor reveals he's working with Jim Mangold who was part of the team that did "The Wolverine." He adds that there is no finality to any discussions and that he has yet to officially sign on. Jackman says he would only do so if it's going be better than the last film.
"I love the intimacy of that story, I liked the small stuff, I liked that it was a little unexpected." Jackman goes on to say, "What's exciting is that you can make it a more interior story, and people actually prefer that."
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine has been one of the core characters in the "X-Men" movie series. Should there be more "X-Men" films, a huge gap may need to be filled to cover Jackman's well-known character.
One things for sure though, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will still be featuring the actor as Wolverine when it hits theaters May 22
