"The Late Late Show" host for the past 10 years has announced that he will be leaving the program.

On Monday, Craig Ferguson told the audience that he will no longer be on the show starting December of this year. "CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are 'consciously uncoupling,' but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much," he said.

Based on a statement issued by CBS, it seems that the network and the host are separating amicably. Entertainment Weekly quotes CBS chair Nina Tassler, who said:

"During his 10 years as host, Craig has elevated CBS to new creative and competitive heights at 12:30. He infused the broadcast with tremendous energy, unique comedy, insightful interviews and some of the most heartfelt monologues seen on television. Craig's versatile talents as a writer, producer, actor and comedian speak to his great days ahead. While we'll miss Craig and can't thank him enough for his contributions to both the show and the Network, we respect his decision to move on, and we look forward to celebrating his final broadcasts during the next eight months."

Now that Craig Ferguson's leave from "The Late Late Show" has been confirmed, the next question would be, who is his replacement? CBS News reports that there are quite a handful of potential replacements for Ferguson.

The outlet mentions the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, saying "wouldn't it be fun to see [him] crack some jokes every night?" Howard Stern is also a likely candidate, notes CBS News, though "Stern would be too racy for late-night television."

CBS News also toys with the idea of a female late-night host, suggesting ex-"Saturday Night Live" stars Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. "Both have the chops and can bring the funny," says the outlet. "The Talk" co-host Aisha Tyler may also well be in the list of possible female late-night hosts to replace Craig Ferguson, adds CBS News.
