Oscar Hernandez, who is tied to the murder of Odin Lloyd, was arrested Wednesday night on federal charges that he lied to a federal grand jury in a gun trafficking investigation.

Hernandez was arrested in Florida on charges of witness tampering, obstruction of justice and lying to a federal grand jury. Officials said his arrest is part of an ongoing gun trafficking investigation between Massachusetts and Florida that began after Lloyd's murder, My Fox Boston reports.

Investigators claim Hernandez gave false testimony when responding to questions about the ownership of a Toyota Camry. Hernandez is quoted in the interview as saying "No sir," when asked if he owned or purchased a Camry.

It is alleged that Hernandez purchased a Camry from a man who is identified as "KS."

Officials said the statement was "material because the grand jury was investigating the interstate transportation of firearms from Florida to Massachusetts in, among other things, the Toyota Camry."

At the request of Massachusetts State Police, the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced the guns and found that they were bought in Florida in April 2013 within a nine-day period by different people whose names were not given in the indictment.

Massachusetts police found one of the illegal guns in the North Attleborough home of a man who is referred to in the indictment as "John Doe #3," who has been identified as former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez, according to a law enforcement official.

The weapon, which is a FEG rifle, was found inside a gray Toyota Camry with a Florida license plate that was parked in the home's garage.

Oscar Hernandez is expected to appear in court Thursday. Afterwards, he will be taken to Massachusetts to face charges.

If convicted, he faces up to 35 years in prison.

Aaron Hernandez is in Bristol County Jail awaiting a first-degree murder trial for the slaying of Odin Lloyd, who was found fatally shot multiple times in an industrial park near Hernandez's home in June 2013.
