The Dallas Cowboys have not made any significant transaction as of late. Still, that doesn't mean Jerry Jones' franchise will stop adding key assets to their lineup as they try to get back into playoff contention next season.
As a matter of fact, Dallas might pull off several solid acquisitions in the coming weeks.
Cowboys beat writer Jonathan Bales of Bleacher Report provided a list of unsigned free-agents who could make an impact on the team this coming season. These players may lack star power, but their presence could bring depth or even a reliable presence in the rotation.
According to Bales, the Cowboys could make a run for offensive Tackle J'Marcus Webb, wide receiver Danario Alexander and free-safety Steve Gregory to fill in some loopholes on their roster.
The 25-year-old Webb has not made improvements in his game since he was selected in the 7th round of the 2010 Draft. However, for a guy in his mid-20s with a 6-foot-7 330-pound frame, Webb may warrant another chance to prove his worth in the NFL, and the Cowboys could be an ideal situation for him
"At a veteran minimum, the Cowboys would acquire a player who would become their swing tackle and also compete with right tackle Doug Free for playing time," according to Bales.
Alexander is another intriguing option for the Cowboys in their attempt to land a third wide receiver. Alexander's knee will surely be a concern after undergoing multiple surgeries, but the 25-year-old wideout is also worth the risk at a minimum price. He was just two years removed from recording 658 yards with seven touchdowns in 10 games for the San Diego Chargers, and there's always a window of possibility he can recapture his old form.
Of course, defense is the major issue the Cowboys need to address this offseason. Gregory, who recorded 79 tackles in his career, could fix part of the problem, according to ESPN Cowboys writer Todd Archer.
"The guy I'd like them to make a play for is Steve Gregory. He's not the greatest, but he's steady and I think that's what they need," Archer said.
