The Oakland Raiders are reportedly are interested adding another quarterback to their roster in the upcoming draft, and they seem to have set their sights set on former Louisiana State Uiniversity (LSU) Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger, a source close to situation reported on Wednesday.
After trading for former Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub and Terrelle Pryor, the Raiders are still looking to get another quarterback in this year's 2014 National Football League Draft, with Mettenberger emerging as possible second or third-round pick.
According to Josh Hill of Sports Illustrated FanSided.com, the Raiders met with Mettenberger before seeing action at LSU Pro Day on Thursday. LSU pro prospects had a decent workout in front of several NFL scouts, but it was Mettenberger who showed the most by displaying mobility and accuracy in his passes.
"That was one of the biggest things we wanted to show," Mettenberger told reporters after the Pro Day, The Associated Press reported. "Just my knee health and mobility was a lot in question. I was able to roll out and throw accurate balls with something behind them."
Mettenberger, who covered 5,783 yards with 35 touchdowns and 15 interceptions through three seasons with the Tigers, is becoming the hottest quarterback prospect weeks before the NFL Draft.
Aside from the Raiders, the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings are also interested in drafting the former LSU Tigers star, if he's still available in the late first round or second round of the draft.
"It's unclear how interested the Raiders are in Mettenberger but there is obviously a decent amount if they called him in for a meeting. Aside from the most talked about names at the top of the draft, Mettenberger is emerging as one of the hottest names in his class," Josh Hill reported.
Pryor Is Goner
Pryor has demanded a trade ever since the Raiders acquired Schaub from the Houston Texans last month. The Raiders already have four quarterbacks on their roster—Trent Edwards, Matt McGloin, Pryor and Schaub—but they can unload one of them for extra picks.
Several teams—including the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings—are reportedly interested in attaining the 24-year-old Pryor, who started for the Raiders this year, though it's unclear if the Raiders will release or trade the former Ohio State Buckeye star.
