Season 3 of "Scandal" will end with a bang on April 17. A huge bomb will explode and a main character may be killed off the show.
The penultimate episode of the popular political thriller series ended with a major cliffhanger as many characters' lives were left hanging by a thread. During the episode, a security breach caused the team to spring into action. However, because of Olivia and her team's interference, B16 was not able to stop a bomb meant for President Fitz from being set. As a result, Olivia's father was called in to help stop Olivia's mother, who was discovered to be behind the explosive.
Much to everyone's surprise, the bomb was never at Defiance and instead was set under a church. Although Jake called Cyrus in time to clear the church, Cyrus decided not to call for an evacuation since Sally Langston and the Vice President were there for the Hightower's funeral, reports CelebDirtyLaundry.
In the season finale, which is titled "The Price of Free and Fair Elections," Olivia will have to deal with her mother Maya as Election Day nears; meanwhile, Charlie will have a surprise in store, while Jake struggles to save the White House. Plus, Maya set the timer to start the bomb at the funeral, which Sally, Leo and Andrew decided to attend.
According to The Hollywood Hills, the synopsis states that: "Election Day has arrived and nothing is off limits as the candidates try to capture votes. Meanwhile, Olivia tries to understand Maya's motives and Charlie makes a very surprising move."
In a promo for the finale, the bomb seems to have gone off while many people were inside. CarterMatt warns fans to expect a high body count and points out that the election may be in jeopardy in the wake of the tragedy.
According to TVLine, actress Darby Stanchfield teased, "The finale explodes into a million different pieces. This set of characters, especially over at Olivia Pope & Associates, are more splintered off from each other than ever before. I mean, when we were shooting the episode, I actually thought to myself, 'I wonder if they're actually going to tear down the set and build a new one?' It's that extreme."
The season finale of "Scandal," S3E18, "Flesh and Blood," will air on Thursday, April 17 on ABC.
