The latest episode of "NCIS: Los Angeles" saw Kensi return to work after being held as a prisoner of war in Afghanistan.
In "Windfall," Kensi (Daniela Ruah) is forced to stay in Ops with Eric (Barrett Foa) while Nell (Renee Felice Smith) joins Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) in the field to investigate a case.
The case of the week involves a man who is held at gunpoint by someone in the backseat of his car, as well as by a valet, who are both demanding to know where their money is.
The driver crashes the car, shoots the valet in self-defense and leaves. The man is Adrian Davis, a former Marine and contractor who was caught trying to smuggle money back into the United States. He's now in hot water with terrorists and the cartel, who want their money back.
Adrian's business partner, Gabriel, says he's clean, but refuses to let Deeks and Nell search his wine warehouse.
Sam (LL Cool J) and Callen (Chris O'Donnell) search the warehouse under the guise of getting into business with Gabriel.
They later discover that Adrian and Gabriel were in contact with one another, but when they go to find Gabriel to question him about it, they find him dead.
They then find money in the warehouse, but they know there is more hidden somewhere.
The team then discovers a box filled not only with wine, but with money. The manager of the warehouse explains that Gabriel marked a mysterious box, sent a text, and had a woman pick up the box once a month.
They follow the woman when she goes to pick up the box, and find Adrian not long after. Deeks tackles him. Adrian explains that he didn't want to take the money, but after his friend Brian got injured and Veteran's Affairs was only covered the basics, he and Gabriel wanted to secure more funds in order to take care of his ailments.
Adrian says that more money is hidden in a jukebox in a bar. The team then sets up the guys who are after Adrian's money, and end up killing the men and finding the money.
Meanwhile, Hetty (Linda Hunt) debates sending Kensi back into the field, but ultimately decides to send her back out where she belongs.
On the next episode, "Three Hearts," "An undercover NCIS agent is taken into custody when he is suspected of working for the smuggler he is supposed to be investigating. Meanwhile, Kensi and Deeks discuss their relationship when Kensi returns to the field."
