Thursday's penultimate episode of Season 5 of "Parenthood" is sure to be a tear jerker. Kristina might be forced to say goodbye to a good friend and Ryan will get into a tragic car crash.

In the last episode of the hit NBC series, Julia fell head over heels for Max's teacher and future headmaster of the charter school, Mr. Knight. Knight was just as enamored with Julie and impressed by her dedication to build a charter school. The two shared amazing chemistry and ended up sleeping together, reports BuddyTV. However, according to a video promo for the upcoming episode, "I'm Still Here," now that Julia seems ready to move on, her estranged husband will show up at her door step, possibly wanting to work things out.

Along with the video teaser, NBC also released several short clips from Episode 21. In one clip, Kristina receives a phone call about her dying friend Gwen, who has not been as fortunate in her battle with cancer.

According to TVLine, Episode 21 will show Matt Lauria's return to the sitcom as Ryan. The executive producer teased that when Ryan and Amber reunite "it's over very, very dramatic circumstances and incorporates some of our other characters in a rich story. It's a very complicated situation for Amber because, clearly, this is somebody that she has such incredibly strong feelings for and that doesn't just go away. But on the other hand, there are lots of complications for them. We'll see her grappling with the closeness that she feels with Ryan and the feeling that it's important that they make a break from each other."

Fans can look forward to meeting Ryan's mom, a "three Bloody Marys for breakfast" type of woman who failed to provide her son with motherly and emotional support.

Sarah Ramos will reprise her role as Haddie, Adam and Kristina's eldest daughter, in the series finale. According to executive producer Jason Katims, the storyline surrounding her return "sets up the potential for her to come back next year. ... We wanted to wait until we found a story for her so that it didn't feel like she was coming back to hug everybody. I really love the story and it will be a bit of a surprise," reports TVLine.

Although her contract on the series ended at the close of Season 3 when her character went off to college, she appeared throughout Season 4 to support to her cancer-stricken mom. Her comeback in this season's finale will mark her first appearance on the show in a year.

According to BroadwayWorld, the official synopsis for "I'm Still Here" states, "Crosby (Dax Shepard) finds himself in a tough housing situation and reaches out to Joel (Sam Jaeger) for help. Julia (Erika Christensen) musters up the courage to talk with Sarah (Lauren Graham) about her current situation. Kristina (Monica Potter) receives some devastating news and puts all her energy into fighting for the charter school, meanwhile Amber (Mae Whitman) also hears of unsettling news and Hank (Ray Romano) steps up to the plate."

"Parenthood" returns on Thursday, April 10 with "I'm Still Here" on NBC at 10 p.m. EDT.
