"Scandal" fans can expect the upcoming penultimate episode of the season to be intense—Olivia Pope and the Gladiators will race against time to destroy a hidden bomb that was planted to kill President Fitz Grant.

In the last episode of the popular political drama series, Abby stepped in as Olivia's proxy, Maya Pope plotted her next big move and Olivia made a huge mistake. As the team continued to investigate B613, someone threw a wrench in Reston's presidential campaign. In the meantime, Oliva put her foot down, warning the Vice President to stop his affair with Mellie if he wanted to keep his job and Oliva's team successfully shut down B16, although they did not realize the consequences, reports Celeb Dirty Laundry.

In the next installment, which is entitled "Flesh and Blood," a security breach will prompt the team to spring into action. However, because of Olivia and her team's interference, B16 was not able to stop a bomb meant for the president. Furthermore, CarterMatt teases that Mellie will try to be a good wife while the entire Grant family tries to keep it together.

The official ABC synopsis reads: "A security breach calls for an all hands on deck situation at OPA. Fitz's re-election campaign becomes stalled and he considers going against Olivia's advice. Meanwhile, Adnan and Maya continue to plot their next move."

ABC also released a promo video that gives insight into what Maya was really planning to do with the bomb, which is to detonate it while the President Grant is in a crowded room full of people.

"Scandal" will return with S3E17, "Flesh and Blood," on Thursday, April 7 on ABC.
