As he has proven in the past, Drake is a versatile artist. He has several different and opposing personas. He's like an onion, as Shrek would say. On his last album, Take Care, Drake exposed his sensitive side by singing about his difficulties coping with his rise to fame and the anguish of relationships lost along the way. However, his most recent music reflects a narcissistic Drake. He repeatedly praises his own achievements and credits no one but himself. He's unbeatable, he has everything anyone could ever desire and he wants the world to know.

There is no problem with changing the encompassing theme of your music from album to album, but you run the risk of losing fans that like you for who you used to be. People fell in love with the broken and distraught Drake who would drunk dial and ex after too many drinks, ranting about the dark facade of success and deep rooted love. As the singer continues to roll out new music in anticipation of his upcoming album Nothing Was the Same, fans can only hope that Drake will open up and expose his other layers.

And fans are getting their wish. His most recent track, "Hold On We're Going Home," features Drake's openness and sensitivity. It's not, however, a ballad of sorts that dominated Take Care. It feeds of sounds reminiscent of his freshman album Thank Me Later, embracing themes of love and sorrow while simultaneously locked into a chopped, almost disco like rhythm, much like those found on "Karaoke" and "Find Your Love." Give it a listen below.

Drake recently announced a 41-show North American tour alongside Miguel and Future that kicks off September 25 in Portland, Oregon. The tour's jump off date coincides nicely with the rumored album debut, so perhaps it's yet another indication of when fans will get the dose of the new Drake that they've been itching for.
