A Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate has accused President Barack Obama of supporting "a destructive homosexual agenda," and went so far as to question Obama's sexuality.

Pastor Scott Lively of Springfield, Mass., said in an interview with Channel 4 News that Obama is part of the gay agenda because of his attempts "to break down the protections for the natural family and legitimize sexual perversion."

"I think Mr. Obama may well be a homosexual himself," he continued. "He is certainly a radical homosexualist—meaning a person, whether they are homosexual or not, meaning a person who is 100 percent invested in the homosexual agenda."

He also went on to say the president is destroying "traditional" family and religious values.

"He is lending the weight of his office to a movement that's goal is to overturn the Judeo-Christian sexual ethic and replace it with the gay ethic of sexual anarchy," Lively said.

Lively has built a public persona based on his anti-gay beliefs. He is also known for having some influence in the draconian anti-gay bill in Uganda.

The evangelist, who is running as an independent candidate in the gubernatorial race, is running against state officials such as Attorney General Martha Coakley, State Treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker.

Lively's hateful comments about gays—as well as his actions against the LGBT community—will most likely be received poorly in the traditionally liberal state.

Lively has traveled to Uganda for over a decade, where he met with religious and political leaders to help draft anti-gay legislation. He addressed the Ugandan parliament in March 2009 to warn them of the "dangers of homosexuality," and spoke of his gay brother and sister, who he said caused him personal suffering.

In February, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed a law that imposes extremely strict penalties for homosexual acts, including life imprisonment. Yet, Lively said he was "very disappointed" that the country's penalty for homosexuality is life in prison. He said he did not advocate the new law, and that he urged conversion therapy and "gay prevention" programs, not imprisonment.

Lively has been called "one of the most notorious exporters of hate" by The Human Rights Campaign, and is being sued by the Center for Constitutional Rights on behalf of Sexual Minorities Uganda, a coalition of LGBT rights groups, due to human rights violations.

Lively has also backed Russia's anti-gay laws, and called Russian President Vladimir Putin "an example of moral leadership."
