Quarterback Terrelle Pryor has asked to be traded or released from the Oakland Raiders after the team's front office aquired former Houston Texan QB Matt Schaub in exchange for Houston's sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft, according to a league source.
After a breakout season that saw him throw for 1,798 yards with seven touchdowns and rushing for 576 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry, the 24-year-old Pryor was reportedly no longer interested in staying with the Raiders. Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reported that the former Ohio State Buckeyes star asked team management to trade him.
"Source tells @FOXSports1 that QB Terrelle Pryor has asked for trade from @RAIDERS - not his release - after team traded for Matt Schaub," Marvez posted on his Twitter account.
San Jose Mercury News National Football League insider Tim Kawakami confirmed that Pryor indeed demanded the Raiders shop him around, with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie considering all his options, including possibly granting the young quarterback his release as requested.
"Asked Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie about Terrelle Pryor's future with the team and McKenzie suggested Pryor could be traded or released soon," Kawakami tweeted.
Several teams have already expressed interest in trading for Pryor when he becomes available on the trading block. The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings are rumored as the teams that could make a run for Pryor.
Pryor had been linked to a potential trade between the Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles, with Eagles head coach Chip Kelly believed to be coveting the quarterback for his size and ability to move a fast-paced offense. But negotiations never gained much traction, especially after Philadelphia signed former New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez, who was released after they signed Michael Vick earlier in the week.
