The New York Yankees are expected to make a lucrative bid for All-Star slugger Mike Trout at the end of his six-year, $144.5 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Angels, according to several baseball analysts.

Trout, who is considered among the best hitters in the game today, agreed to spend more years with the Angels after signing a huge deal over the weekend. Many baseball pundits believe the Angels could have locked down the 22-year-old Trout for longer, but the prospect of testing the free agency market at the peak of his career would be too tempting to turn down.

According to Trout's agent Craig Landis, the terms and length of the extension are perfect for his client, as he looks for a record-breaking paycheck.

"We're not like the other people," Landis said of Trout's decision to sign a shorter extension via Los Angeles Times. "We feel that Mike is going to do well. We like the length of this deal. We feel that this keeps our options open down the road and gives Mike lifetime security."

Los Angeles Times writer Mike DiGiovanna presumed that Trout is probably intrigued by the option to play for a fabled franchise such as the New York Yankees or his hometown ballclub the Philadelphia Phillies.

"One of those options, of course, is for Trout, a New Jersey native, to bolt for the New York Yankees or his hometown Philadelphia Phillies, a prospect that makes Angels fans cringe," DiGiovanna stated.

Entering only his third season in the major leagues, Trout has already accomplished historic milestones. The Angels slugger is one of only four players who managed to boast a .320 batting average with 50 homers and 200 runs in his first two full seasons, joining teammate Albert Pujols, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.

He also boasts AL Rookie of the Year and two runner-up finishes to Miguel Cabrera in MVP voting. This year, Trout is tapped as the hands down favorite to bag his first career MVP award.
