King Henry's madness reached new heights on the latest episode of "Reign."

In "Monsters," the court holds a "queen for a day" contest, in which any servant can become queen for a day by finding a "magic bean." Penelope, the kitchen girl, wins the contest, meaning she will be at the mercy of Henry's (Alan Van Sprang) unstable and often violent whims.

Nostradamus (Rossif Sutherland) and Catherine (Megan Follows) enlist Penelope's help to drug him with a coma poison to make him sane, which they also say is an aphrodisiac.

When Penelope is with Henry, Henry suggests that she should have sex with Mary (Adelaide Kane), and that he should watch. Penelope decides to pull one over on Henry and tie him up--then drugs Catherine.

Meanwhile, Lord Julian breaks up with Greer (Celina Sinden) after walking in on her and Leith, which makes Greer the laughing stock of the court. Mary then schemes for Lord Julian to marry Lola (Anna Popplewell) to cover up the fact that Lola is having Francis' (Tony Regbo) child.

Lord Castleroy then comes to Leith's aid, who was put in jail for his relationship with Greer. He gets Leith out of jail and enlists him in the army. Greer then accepts Castleroy's marriage proposal.

Nostradamus performs surgery on Olivia (Yael Grobglas), as her wounds are still not healing. Their romance also continues, although Nostradamus is reluctant since his wife and children died from the plague.

Then, Bash (Torrance Coombs) comes back and surrenders to the King, warning him of impending danger. He tells Francis that Olivia is in danger. Nostradamus arrives on the scene, and confirms that the dark monster is actually a man.

Bash and Francis search in the woods for the mysterious person. During their search, Francis falls through the ice, but Bash cuts through it, saving Francis' life. The two reconcile, until Henry shows up to say that he ordered Bash to be killed. Francis defends him, and steps in front of Bash to shield him from the mad King. But Henry is determined to wreak havoc, so he forces Bash to marry Kenna (Caitlin Stasey). A devastated Kenna cries through her veil as they say their wedding vows.

Alan Van Sprang, who portrays Mad King Henry, spoke to TVLine about his character's rapid descent into madness.

While Henry seems completely nuts to the viewing audience, Van Sprang said Henry believes that everything he does makes sense.

"He doesn't think he's nuts at all," Van Sprang explained. "He's always had God in his life, but he's being reborn in a way. And after the episode where he awoke to the crucifix above his bed, he's found complete clarity - which means world domination. He knows who he has to step on to get there and what he has to do, so everything makes sense now. Manipulating people, killing people, it doesn't matter who it is. He's ready to break people."

He also hinted that his madness will affect Scotland and England, as well as the people in French court.

And as for when Henry will finally bite the dust, Van Sprang said he isn't exactly sure when it will happen, but that it will occur relatively soon.

"When I signed on, both Toby [Regbo] and myself sat down with the producers and said, "We know that, historically, we're both donezo at some point. But, honestly, everyone in the show dies," he said. "It just depends on the direction they want to go in, and how quickly they want history to move along. We'll have to see next season how everybody's doing. ... I guess they would let us know at some point and give us notice, but no one's given me the death stare yet."

While Henry is not going anywhere just yet, Mary de Guise's days as a royal could be numbered.

On the next episode, "Liege Lord," "Mary uncovers her marriage contract's secret clause, which was added by Catherine and her mother, so she and Francis attempt to persuade the people of Scotland to renounce her mother."
