Penelope Cruz has made her debut as a TV ad director with a controversial release for lingerie line L'Agent for Agent Provocateur. The star, who recently became a mother alongside fellow Spaniard Javier Bardem , has received criticism for the sexually charged content of the commercial.
L'Agent is a new line which is designed by Penelope and her sister.
The ad features Cruz' husband, alongside a series of supermodels wearing different models from the Agent Provocateur lingerie line. The commercial was initially removed from Youtube because it violated the website's content rules, but was reuploaded only a few hours later.
The video stars Russian model Irina Shayk and Spanish actor Miguel Angel Silvestre and has cameos from Cruz' sister Monica as well as from her husband Javier Bardem. Penelope's sister Monica, who is pregnant is seen wearing a baby doll and posing for the camera.
The video involved all of the Cruz family as the music was created by Penelope's brother Eduardo and the location used was Cruz's home in Madrid. Cruz' mother also assisted in the shooting by helping out in the make-up department.
Penelope spoke to Vogue magazine about her experience shooting the video: "[It was] very personal and important for me, a very interesting experience,They gave me all the freedom and I was able to tell the story I wanted to tell. I used women of all shapes and sizes, as it was important for me to let women know that this brand is for everyone. I chose Irina, as she is such a vivacious woman, and with all the beautiful women in the campaign, I really needed someone who would keep the audience's attention."
Agent Provocateur is known to attract big names for its commercial campaigns. In the past its adverts have featured names like Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue and Rossie Huntington-Whitley .
The company's creative director Sarah Shotton, spoke to Vogue about Penelope's involvement in the shoot. "Penelope said that she wanted to be fully engaged in the creative process of the ad, and I think that commitment is fully reflected in the final cut of the video. Penelope took it upon herself to take care of even the smallest details in the production. She thought of this shoot as her child because it is her first time as a commercial director so she wanted everything to be absoultely perfect.
