"The Vampire Diaries" will return with another intense episode on Thursday, March 27.
In last week's episode, "While You Were Sleeping," Elena and Damon ended up sharing a passionate night together after having a heated conversation about their "toxic" romance. The exes may be madly in love with one another, but based on past experiences it's clear that they cannot maintain a relationship. However, instead of learning from their past, TVD stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev stated that the two just can't get enough of each other.
"They have to put on their big-boy pants and big-girl pants," Somerhalder said Saturday at PaleyFest, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "The problem is they keep taking their pants off and that keeps getting in the way of things," Dobrev added.
After hitting the sheets, Elena and Damon will have to play surrogate parents for Jeremy at his school's parent-teacher conference in the upcoming episode, "Rescue Me." It turns out he's not doing well in his classes, which may be due to the fact that he is spending a lot of time at Whitmore College with Bonnie.
The CW released a teaser video that shows Elena and Damon sitting in a classroom and talking about Jeremy, but Elena feels awkward after hooking up with her old flame.
In the meantime, Shady siblings Liv and Luke will also move forward to execute their plan, leading Jeremy to strike a deal with Liv and devastate Elena. WetPaint suggests that Liv and Luke want to use Bonnie, the anchor to the Other Side, to reach someone in their past. However, because Jeremy isn't going to let anything happen to his girlfriend, he will end up in the middle of this mess.
Plus, there are hints that there may be sparks between Stefan and Caroline.
At PaleyFest, executive producer Caroline Dries explained Katherine's epic death scene and teased that the evil doppelganger may make a surprise return to the show.
"We don't really [discuss] heaven and hell on the show," said Drie. "I thought it was pretty obvious - her being dragged away in a church - where she went." That doesn't necessarily mean that viewers should never expect to see Katherine again in some form. As Dries says, "Never say never on our show," reports TVLine.
EP Julie Plec also warned fans not to hold your breath for another Klaus-Caroline reunion.
"If they were still on the same show, they might have a brief moment of something," Plec said. "I feel like Caroline Forbes is such a crucial element ... on 'The Vampire Diaries.' I think taking her off that show would be very damaging to the show. Right now, Klaus has [his own] s--t to do."
When a fan asked if there's still "hope for Stelena," Dries said this about the Stefan and Elena: "There's some really good Stelena stuff coming up in the episode Paul directed." She called it "satisfying" and "nostalgic," while Wesley added that it's "reminiscent of season one."
Dread Central posted the official synopsis for Episode 17, which adds, "Bonnie (Kat Graham) has an unsettling encounter with Luke (guest star Chris Brochu) and learns more about his family history. Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) fills Jeremy in on the rumors about the Travelers' next move and demonstrates her considerable power."
The teaser continues, "Finally, a terrifying turn of events at the Travelers' camp leads to the appearance of their mysterious leader, Markos (guest star Raffi Barsoumian)."
"The Vampire Diaries" S5E17, "Rescue Me," airs on the CW on Thursday, March 27 at 8 p.m. EST.
