Marcos Maidana is confident about his chances to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their upcoming showdown on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Maidana stressed that he is not intimidated by his more celebrated opponent, insisting that his previous foe, Adrien Broner, is stronger than Mayweather.

"I believe that Mayweather is not as strong as Broner," Maidana said. "He is a better boxer [than Broner] but I think that he is not as strong. I believe that, because Broner felt very strong and I do not see Mayweather being like that. Also, Mayweather often goes against the ropes and that's where he's in danger."

Maidana is coming off a unanimous decision win over Broner in their WBA welterweight title showdown in December last year. The 30-year-old Argentinian floored the then-unbeaten Broner in the second and eighth round of their 12-round match.

Much like in the Broner bout, Maidana heads into his fight against "Money" as a heavy underdog, but the Buenos Aires native is unfazed, saying that he will train harder than before, plannning on showing no fear and respect to Mayweather on fight night.

"I am going to train well, I am going to go out there and fight without fear and without respecting him," Maidana said. "There are many boxers that when they are in the ring with Floyd, they are afraid. He is not going to intimidate me. I want to beat him."

Maidana stressed that Mayweather looked dominant in his previous fight only because his opponents were intimated by the reigning pound-for-pound king.

Maidana cited Mayweather's win over Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in September last year as an example, quickly adding that he will not commit the same mistake on May 3.

"Canelo Alvarez did not go after him," Maidana stressed. "He didn't do anything and allowed Mayweather to work. I always go out to press my rival, to corner him and to unload my punches, and with Mayweather I am going to do the same."
