The Miami Masters resumes on Tuesday, with Roger Federer looking to secure a spot in the quarterfinals against longtime rival Richard Gasquet, while Rafael Nadal faces Fabio Fognini in the other fourth-round matchup at Key Biscayne in Miami, Fla.
The Swiss Master continues to have a flawless run in the tournament after vanquishing both Ivo Karlovic 6-1, 6-3 and Thiemo de Bakker 6-1, 6-0 in the first two rounds. Now, Federer is facing his old-time rival in Gasquet, who defeated Kevin Anderson of South Africa 6-3, 6-4.
Federer, who won the Dubai Open and finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells, felt really confident heading into a clash with Gasquet.
"I'm feeling really good with my game," the Swiss said during post-match interview via AFP. "My confidence is high and I'm moving well. I'm excited about how I've been playing."
Federer added that his 11 career matches against Gasquet would not be enough for him to be complacent in his next match, adding that he might need some inside information on how his rival has played as of late.
"We've played many times and I'm not sure how he's playing right now," Federer said of Gasquet. "I have to find out a little bit."
Meanwhile, Nadal also eyes a seat in the quarterfinals as he takes on up-and-coming star player Fabio Fognini of Italy. Fognini, who has three career titles, could pose a test for Nadal after engaging in a three-set battle with Spain's Roberto Bautista-Agut.
Still, Nadal believed he had a better outing in his last match after obliterating Dennis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-1, 6-0 on Monday.
"I played a very complete match," Nadal told ESPN. "No match is perfect but I did a lot of things very well. No mistakes, serving with good percentage, and playing a lot of winners.
"My movements were better than what I did last event events. That's a very important thing for me."
