Amir Khan revealed recently that Floyd Mayweather Jr. gave him a guarantee that they will eventually face each other in the near future.

Khan said that Mayweather called him a week after choosing Marcos Maidana for his upcoming fight on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

According to Khan, one of his friends called him and asked if he wanted to talk to the reigning pound-for-pound king. The Bolton, England native then reportedly had a phone conversation with Mayweather where he asked the undefeated champion about his decision to face Maidana instead of him.

"I spoke to Floyd funnily enough a week after he'd announced his fight with Maidana," Khan told Ringside, Sky Sports reported. "My friend called me and asked if I wanted to talk to Floyd and I said 'put him on the phone' and Floyd said 'how are you doing champ? I said 'I'm alright, but why didn't you take the fight? What was the issue?"

Khan said that Mayweather did not give a reason why he opted to face Maidana, but the Grand Rapids native reportedly told Khan that the fight between them will still take place before the end of Mayweather's illustrious boxing career.

"He said 'Listen champ, you're a great fighter, I respect you. The fight will happen, you know. I have a few more fights left in my career and it will happen between me and you - just not yet,'" Khan said.

The 27-year-old Briton also revealed that Golden Boy Promotions called him to gauge his interest in fighting on the undercard before the Mayweather-Maidana showdown.

Khan previously turned down the idea of fighting in one of the undercards on May 3, but the former light welterweight champion had a change of heart.

"I thought it was a good idea because I'd be in his (Mayweather) face plus Maidana is a guy I have already beaten, so I might steal a little of the attention from him," Khan said.

Reports indicate that Khan is planning to move to the welterweight division and will face either Luis Collazo or Robert Guerrero in his debut at 147 lbs.
