Sergio Martinez vowed to dominate Miguel Cotto in their 12-round title showdown on June 7 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
In an interview with BoxingScene on Friday, Martinez took a swipe at Freddie Roach, who recently called Martinez a soccer player, saying that he will just let his fists do the talking on fight night.
"It will be a slaughter," Martinez said of his upcoming fight against Cotto.
The reigning WBC middleweight champion, who is coming off a long layoff due to a knee injury, also said that he is not worried about being robbed of a victory, saying confidently that he will win by knockout.
"I have a lot of respect for Cotto. Beyond what we said on the tour, he's had a great career. But on June 7, I know I'm going to win. I'm not going to need judges, I'm wining by knockout," Martinez said in an interview.
Cotto, who is coming off a knockout win against Delvin Rodriguez in October last year, is motivated to steal Martinez's middleweight title as he is aiming to make history.
The 33-year-old Cotto is looking to become the first Puerto Rican to win four world titles in as many divisions, but Martinez insisted he will not allow Cotto to achieve his goal.
"He's looking to make history, more than he's already done," Martinez said. "But that night he is not going to beat me. Cotto will be knocked out. He will end up going to sleep."
Martinez is coming off a unanimous decision win against Martin Murray in April last year—his first title defense since capturing the WBC middleweight title with a dominating decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez in September.
The 39-year-old Argentine has not fought since his win against Murray after sustaining a major knee injury.
Boxing analysts are still doubting whether or not Martinez's knee will hold up in the Cotto fight, but his trainer, Gabriel Sarmiento, previously said that Martinez is more than capable of knocking his opponent out.
