Michelle Obama and her daughters are in China promoting soft diplomacy.

Chinese president Xi Jinping told Michelle Obama through a translator, "I cherish my sound working relationship and personal friendship I already established with your husband." He also said that the two keep in touch through email and phone calls.

The Chinese First Lady, Peng Liyuan, added that China has an ancient idiom, where when "two people meet for the first time, they may feel as if they have known each other for many years."

We just can't help being interested in what the two First Ladies are wearing.

Both Obama and Peng have been praised for their fashion-forward styles, so we can imagine how deliberate the two were when choosing their outfits for this visit.

Round One:

The two women toured a high school, which happens to have a relationship with Sidwell Friends, the school Sasha and Malia Obama attend. Michelle Obama wore 3.1 Phillip Lim, where her color-blocked top was what made the outfit. Peng wore a teal coat and pencil skirt, which she wore with Oxford heels. This round easily goes to Peng because the colors are so vibrant, and the fit is great. Obama's vest is too dowdy to be paired with loose-fitting trousers. When she removed the vest to play ping pong, the look dramatically improved.

Round Two:

Michelle Obama and her daughters were greeted by Xi Jinping and Peng. They watched a traditional Chinese cultural performance. Obama wore a red lace dress with kitten heels. Peng wore a black column dress beneath a cape with flower trim. Though Peng looks more dressed up than Obama, we're going to have to give this one to the American First Lady. The look is very classic Obama, so we've seen some version of this before, but it works on her. It's both stylish and professional, and we love the dangly earrings she chose to pair with the look. As for Peng, the cape is beautiful, but we have a feeling that the dress is even prettier.

Though both ladies have stunned in one way or another so far, we might argue that the real breakout stars have been Sasha and Malia. The two girls always look put together, but they are starting to really infuse some of their personality into their outfits. And the result is adorable.
