The Villanova Wildcats, Michigan State Spartans, Connecticut Huskies, and Harvard Crimson have already earned berths in the third round, and on Friday, eight more teams in the East Region will look to follow suit.
George Washington Colonials (9) vs. Memphis Tigers (8)
The George Washington University Colonials will look to prove their doubters wrong when they collide with the University of Memphis Tigers at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
The Tigers are currently listed as a three-point favorite in most betting odds, and President Barack Obama also picked Memphis to defeat George Washington, but the Colonials vowed to make noise in their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2007.
However, the Tigers are also hungry for success, and their four senior guards -- Joe Jackson, Michael Dixon Jr., Chris Crawford, and Geron Johnson -- are also itching to end their collegiate careers on a bright note.
Providence Friars (11) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (6)
The University of North Carolina Tar Heels will also see action Friday, with the sixth-seeded squad looking to avoid an upset against the Providence College Friars at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The Tar Heels' campaign this season have been tainted by controversies, including star P.J. Hairston's NCAA rule violation and academic scandals, but coach Roy Williams vowed to regroup in this year's tournament.
Standing in their way are the upset-conscious Friars, who earned their first NCAA tournament berth in 10 years after scoring an upset win against the Creighton Bluejays in the Big East Tournament finals.
North Carolina Central Eagles (14) vs. Iowa State Cyclones (3)
The Iowa State University Cyclones will also kick off their 2014 NCAA Tournament campaign against a less-favored North Carolina Central University Eagles at the AT&T Center following the UNC-Providence showdown.
The Eagles earned a tournament berth this year with a win over Morgan State in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) finals, which also extended their winning streak to 20 games.
They will be facing a tall order, though, as they will be going up against the third-seeded Cyclones, who are expected to pick up from where they left off when they captured their first Big 12 title in 14 years.
Coast Carolina Chanticleers (16) vs. Virginia Cavaliers (1)
In the main attraction of Friday's East Region slate, the top-seeded University of Virginia Cavaliers will begin their quest for national glory when they take on Big South Conference champions Coast Carolina University Chanticleers in Raleigh.
Virginia, who missed last year's big dance and was eliminated in their first game two years ago, are on a high after capturing their first ACC Tournament title since 1976.
Anthony Gill will be the man to watch for the Cavaliers after the sophomore forward averaged 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in the ACC Tournament, better than his 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds average during the regular season.

The UNC-Providence match will be shown live via TBS starting 7:20 p.m. EST, followed by the Iowa State-North Carolina Central game at 9:50 p.m. EST.
