Michelle Obama and her daughters, Sasha and Malia, are in China to promote family, a U.S.-China diplomacy, and they are doing it in style.

Obama wore a leather-and-suede patchwork Derek Lam dress. She paired it with thigh high boots, and seemed to be dressed for slightly chilly weather. Sasha and Malia were equally as chic. The sisters wore complementary outfits, as they are known to do.

Sasha wore a velvet red skirt, a black top and tights. Malia wore a shiny silver pleated skirt and a brown shirt.

The Obamas were invited by another stylish lady, Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan. Obama and her daughters made a great first showing, but it's the official dinner taking place on Friday that everyone will be waiting for. Peng and Obama are both known for dazzling at important functions.

Sasha and Malia will be participating in events, it is not known if Peng's daughter will also join in, reported Women's Wear Daily.

Peng, unlike other Chinese First Ladies, does not stay in the background.

She has become very visible along her husband, and she does things that are not the norm. For example, hosting the First Lady and her daughters is not typical as the Chinese first family does not usually do this for other world leaders.

Michelle Obama will do a bit of sightseeing and speak at Peking University. They will spend the weekend in Beijing before moving on to Xi'an. At Chengdu, Obama will speak to high school students about education.

The Obamas will be leaving from Chengdu, and will end the trip by eating at a Tibetan restaurant.
