It's been more than a week since Angelique Boyer and José Alberto Castro announced their split, and the two have mostly maintained their silence about their relationship.

But there's a new rumor that the real reason she broke it off was because he hit her. A source close to the couple, who chose to remain anonymous, said that she couldn't take being by Castro's side any more, according to TV Notas.

The two were last seen together a few weeks ago, so if the breakup really did happen at the beginning of February, Boyer and Castro could have been faking for the cameras. Boyer expressed her thanks when a Twitter user shared a picture of a story about her and Castro on Feb. 3.

But the source says that the relationship was not always a happy one.

"They had fights in the middle of parties in front of everyone," he continued. "Everyone else felt shaken after seeing how he treated her."
