The San Francisco 49ers could be another option for veteran signal-caller Michael Vick, who could back up starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a source close to the situation reported on Thursday.
Sports Illustrated's Peter King believes that the 49ers look like the more ideal destination for Vick, who has become a great locker room player and accurate passer for the last two years. King pointed out Vick should gain more interest from other teams, because of his leadership and ability to step up his game when the starting quarterback is on the sidelines.
Though the Minnesota Vikings have emerged as the front-runner for Vick's services and the New York Jets remain the most ideal destination for him, King thinks Vick should also consider the Super Bowl contender San Francisco 49ers
"I keep saying this, and few believe me: Vick's a very good locker room guy now, a leader, and he'd be a good team guy whether or not he wins the starting job. I think if Vick had been more accurate in his past two years in Philly (.581, .546), offensive coordinator Norv Turner could have been sold on him with the Vikings. I know Vick was very interested in Minnesota," King stated in his article.
Vick is the hottest name in the very shallow free agent market for quarterbacks, drawing interest from at least five teams, including the New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and the Buffalo Bills.
Despite losing the starting role to Nick Foles last season, the 33-year old signal-caller threw for 1,215 yards with five touchdowns and a 86.4 quarterback rating.
