Things are heating up on "The Vampire Diaries" now that Katherine has officially left the building and Elena is back from body banishment. However, TVD fans will have to wait an extra week to see what happens next on the supernatural drama series.

In last week's episode, "Gone Girl" the evil doppelganger that fans loved to hate in Season 1 was dragged out of the church, seemingly to hell. However, although Elena is back, she will suffer from the Ripper virus in the March 20 episode, entitled "While You Were Sleeping," reports WetPaint.

"This is the virus. It's in your head," Bonnie tells a distressed Elena in a promo video for Episode 16.

In another clip, Elena turns to Damon for help, asking "How exactly do we cure this?"

Meanwhile, Stefan and Caroline will try to save Elena by seeking out Enzo in a rail yard. "You have the antidote to the Ripper virus, correct?" Stefan asks Enzo, who looks away coyly.

In the following scene, the Ripper virus appears to take control of Elena as she is seen burning things in a bonfire and dancing on top of a table at a party. She also frantically asks, "What's happening to me, Damon?" However, Damon responds very nonchalantly, telling his ex-girlfriend, "Oh, yeah, it sucks. Oof. You're gonna be craving carbs constantly."

Later, the couple are in the same room in the Salvatore mansion, where Elena screams out "I love you!" To which an impassioned Damon yells, "Then stops loving me." Elena insists, "I can't" and then the two share a passion-filled kiss.

According to a leaked synopsis for the upcoming episode, Stefan will have to tell Elena what went on during the time that Katherine possessed her body, reports the International Business Times. This includes telling her about being poisoned with werewolf venom and that Damon was injected with a serum that has caused him to crave vampire blood.

Plus, Luke, the show's first openly gay teen played by actor Chris Brochu, will also appear in Episode 16, although it doesn't look like he and Elena will be too friendly with one another, teases TVLine.

When Elena runs into Luke, she will have no memory of him. However, because he and his boyfriend just broke up, he will want to spend spring break getting drunk with Elena. Instead, she sends him on a quest to find Bonnie and the new witch Liv.

Also, in the last few minutes of "While You Were Sleeping" Damon and Elena will reportedly have a new agreement in regards to their relationship.

"The Vampire Diaries" S5E16, "While You Were Sleeping," airs on the CW on Thursday, March 20 at 8 p.m. EST.
