Lena Dunham is Glamour's April cover girl, sporting a stellar cat eye and putting her tattoos on display.

In the issue, she talks relationships, her show "Girls," and nudity. She starts off discussing a bit of advice Nora Ephron gave her: "You can't meet someone until you've become who you're becoming."

At one point, just a little bit before "Girls" was picked up, she was thinking of getting back together with a guy that she had dated for five months because she thought that was as good as it was going to get. Filmmaker and writer Ephron told her not to go back to the old flame, and that same year she got her HBO show and met her boyfriend, Jack Antonoff, of the band Fun.

He has been nothing but supportive since the beginning, Dunham says. 

"I remember talking with him on our first date and him being like, 'God, all the articles about your nudity on the show are such bullsh-t,'"she said. "It's funny, 'cause in some ways that's the conversation we still have when I'm upset [about stuff I read]."

She also explained that while it's easy for women to watch their men succeed, men don't always expect women to rise higher.

"I think women are conditioned to stand by their man and watch them make it to the top, but most men never believe the person they get into a relationship with is going to rise any higher than she was when they met," she said. "It takes a very special, evolved person to be able to deal with change within a relationship."

She also explained that "Girls" is shot through a soft-focus lens because it reminds her of looking at photographs of her parents in the 1970s when they were in their 20s. She also wants the other female actresses to look beautiful, but a specific kind of beautiful.

"Also, it was important that [the characters] not look like people on TV," she said. "I wasn't like, 'I want us all to be chubby with acne!' I wanted us to be beautiful-but the way you have friends who are beautiful and you go, 'My friend Meredith just has the most amazing face.' You're not marveling at her like a movie star, but you've fallen in love with her face."
