Jeff Mayweather thinks that Marcos Maidana earned the right to face Floyd Mayweather Jr., but he is not expecting a tough night for his nephew in his showdown with the Argentinian on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In an interview with Fighthype last week, Jeff Mayweather said that Maidana has good boxing skills, but he believes Floyd Jr. will expose his opponent's flaws on fight night.

Jeff Mayweather said that it will be a brutal night for Maidana, and that he will have the same fate as Arturo Gatti, who absorbed a beating from Floyd Jr. during their showdown in June 2005.

"I think Maidana gonna bring, of course he is a puncher, but he has a lot of flaws too. I could see this fight being a very brutal fight for him. I could really see if Floyd is on point, like he normally is, I can see this fight being like a Gatti type of performance," Jeff Mayweather said.

Jeff Mayweather said that Maidana had a great performance during his win over then-unbeaten Adrien Broner, but the world-class trainer said that it will be hard for the 30-year-old Argentinian to repeat that feat against his nephew.

Jeff Mayweather pointed out that Maidana is too slow and that the things that he did during his unanimous decision win against Broner won't work against Floyd Jr.

"He is too slow, and I mean the stuff that he was doing to Adrien Broner is not gonna work on Floyd at all. I'm not basing it on what he did against Adrien Broner because, first of all, they are not the same fighters," Jeff Mayweather stressed.

But while he thinks that the Mayweather-Maidana fight will be a one-sided affair, Jeff Mayweather insisted that the reigning pound-for-pound king still made the right decision to face Maidana instead of Amir Khan.

"I think Floyd did the right thing by choosing Maidana as opposed to choosing Amir Khan because Amir Khan has done nothing to even be in a title fight," Jeff Mayweather added.
