The latest episode of "Reign" featured a double kidnapping and the death of a shadowy character.
In "Royal Blood," Clarissa (Katie Boland) is rifling through the Queen's things when two servants have a romantic rendezvous in a private room. Afterwards, one of the servants hears Clarissa whispering, so Clarissa grabs the girl and snaps her neck.
Mary (Adelaide Kane) visits Bash (Torrance Coombs) at the stables and reassures him that the Vatican is on their side and will legitimize him.
Bash and Mary then send Charles and Henry to the village, but a group of anti-Medici thugs try to capture them. They make it home safely, and Catherine (Megan Follows) says they'll receive no attention from their father once she's executed. Mary promises her that she'll raise the boys as her own.
Bash decides to send the boys away for protection, but Mary thinks he wants to send them away because he feels guilty over what happened with Francis (Tony Regbo). Mary rejects the idea, and the boys stay. Henry (Alan Van Sprang) agrees to put extra guards outside the boys' rooms.
In Paris, Lola (Anna Popplewell) is at the Burgundy House to settle the gambling debts of her brother. The viscount, Francis, wants to wager double Frederick's debt--including a night with Lola--on one of the playing cards. Francis loses, but talks his way into wagering 16 times the debit owed, as well as time with Lola. He wins, and walks off with Lola.
At the castle, Bash creates an impromptu fair, as he feels guilty about the boys not being able to go to the one in the city due to the attempted kidnapping. Yet, at the fair, Mary's ladies-in-waiting notice that the boys are gone. It turns out Bash "kidnapped" the boys to get them to an abbey for protection, then they will go to Spain.
The boys and their driver are at a rest point when Clarissa, who stowed away with them, sneaks off the wagon. She takes the two boys and promises to care for them.
Nostradamus (Rossif Sutherland) bursts into Catherine's room to find that she's hanged herself from the ceiling with a rope. They cut her down and Nostradamus takes her to her chambers to revive her. Catherine is ready to hitch a ride to Italy to regain her strength, but her journey is derailed when she is informed of her children being kidnapped.
Catherine then goes with Bash and Mary to look for Henry and Charles.
In Paris, Lola and Francis wake up the next morning after their night together and Lola thanks Francis for saving her.
Meanwhile, the search party finds the boys' driver dead, and they follow a trail that leads them to a lake where Clarissa is with Charles and Henry. When Clarissa sees Bash, Mary and Catherine, she holds Charles at knife point. She says that Catherine never loved her, and she was forced to hide in the shadows due to her deformity. Since Catherine took away her chances of having a family, she wants to take away her family by killing the boys.
Catherine tells her not to be like her, and Clarissa seems to be coming around until she grabs Charles tighter, ready to slit his throat. Mary saves Charles by hitting Clarissa over the head with a rock, killing her.
Catherine decides to return to the castle, and says she owes the lives of her sons to Mary.
Bash and Mary then decide to get married, and Francis decides to return to the castle to stop his father from beheading his mother.
Torrance Coombs, a.k.a Bash, told TVLine that Mary is not the cause of all his problems--he also has disdain for the blood sacrifices in the woods.
"He thinks that's a load of crap and he's trying to stop it, so that was always going to get him into trouble. But what gets him into extra trouble is because of his feelings for Mary. They go after her, so he has to bring everybody else into it, too," he said.
He said that his impending marriage to Mary could pose some problems. "It's tricky, because the thing that he's been pining after since the beginning is now available to him, but not fully emotionally available just yet," Coombs explained.
He also hinted that Bash may get cozy with one of Mary's ladies-in-waiting in a future episode, but "maybe not in the way that you think."
On the next episode, "The Consummation," "Mary Stuart's wedding to Sebastian is getting closer and closer as the Pope comes to a decision. Francis comes back to court to save his mother's life. Then everything takes a back step when Mary's own mother, Marie de Guise arrives at French Court. This does not sit well with King Henry and Catherine."
Check out the promo for the next episode below, which airs Thursday, March 6 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
