There was one show that was absent from the New York Fashion Week lineup, and we didn't even notice.
Katie Holmes' fashion side project, Holmes & Yang, has decided to close. The line was started with her longtime stylist Jeanne Yang. The two released a joint statement to Just Jared, announcing the end of the brand. "After five years, both Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang have decided to close their line, Holmes & Yang. Katie and Jeanne remain close friends," Holmes & Yang said in a statement.
Page Six, however, says the partnership ended because of "interpersonal conflict."
"Jeanne enjoys the spotlight way more than Katie does," the source said. "Things have definitely soured between them."
Also, the two lived on different coasts, with Holmes in New York and Yang in Los Angeles, so it was difficult to work on the line.
The brand was launched in 2009 and sold at Barneys New York, though it is no longer sold there.
Though the New York Times described it as a brand that didn't require a lot of thought, and celebrities like Nicole Richie, Olivia Wilde and Jennifer Lawrence have been seen wearing the brand, it never became as prominent as other celebrity-run brands, such as The Row by the Olsen twins and Victoria Beckham.
One of the differences is that the Olsens and Beckham completely gave up their other careers to focus on fashion; Katie Holmes has become busier as an actress in the last few years.
She acts in the upcoming film "The Giver" with Meryl Streep, and she will also be in a few indie films, such as "Responsible Adults," "Mania Days" and "Miss Meadows." Much like Kanye West, who primarily still works as a musician, it's difficult to handle both entertainment and fashion.
The brand was also incredibly exclusive and didn't allow many people to see the collection during New York Fashion Week.
