The University of Arizona Wildcats will try to wrap up their flawless season at home for the second time in four years, when they play host to the upset-minded Stanford University Cardinals at McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday.
The Wildcats (26-2) are the undisputed kings of the Pac-12 this season, winning 13 of their 15 conference games, with one of their victories coming at the expense of Stanford, as the Wildcats scratched by with a 60-57 victory Jan. 29.
Heading into their rematch, Arizona head coach Sean Miller said he knows his team is in for a tougher outing this time around, with the Cardinals hungry to salvage a marquee win that could help them boost their chances for a spot in the NCAA Final Four Tourney.
"It would be foolish for us to talk about that with our team. It's just about being ready for Stanford. And if we're able to do that, I think it would be an accomplishment that we would be very proud of," Head coach Sean Miller told ESPN. "The fact that we won at Colorado, and then on the heels of that were able to beat a very good Cal team makes us feel good about that knowing that Sunday we might even have a bigger challenge with Stanford."
Meanwhile, Cardinals head coach Johnny Dawkins is still pondering what went wrong in their last game against the Wildcats. Stanford was in control of the ballgame for almost the entire game until Arizona came through with big plays, including a tie-breaking three-pointer by Nick Johnson with 51 seconds left in the game.
"For 38 minutes, I thought we were right there," Dawkins told ESPN. "Credit Arizona for making the plays they had to make at the end."
