Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis' tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might end before the start of the new season, following reports on Wednesday of the franchise's plans to trade one of the finest defensive players in the league.

The 28-year-old Revis could be on his way out of Tampa Bay after just one season, with numerous teams asking the Buccaneers about the cornerback's availability.

The Tampa Bay Times reported the Bucs are receiving offers from multiple teams interested in landing the five-time Pro Bowl cornerback.

"Teams have contacted the Bucs about trading for Darrelle Revis and many believe the Pro Bowl cornerback could be dealt by the start of the league year," the story stated.

According to the report, the Bucs have so far turned down offers from interested suitors, but their stance in keeping Revis could change when the free agency period officially begins.

"Although the Bucs did not initiate the talks and are not shopping Revis, several teams at the NFL combine in Indianapolis began to explore whether Tampa Bay would consider a trade that would save $16-million on the salary cap to improve in other areas while potentially netting more draft picks," the Times reported.

Revis - On His Way Out

Revis racked up 50 tackles and two interceptions last season with the Buccaneers despite coming off an ACL injury. He might no longer be called the best cornerback in the game, Revis still managed to book his ticket to Hawaii for his fifth Pro Bowl appearance.

The Buccaneers are set to have a $132 million salary cap, and unloading Revis' $16 million per year contract would help the franchise address other holes on the team, including the offensive and defensive line.

"Revis, who turns 29 in July, is occupying a huge chunk of the projected $132-million salary cap in 2014 that the Bucs could use to greatly improve their team, perhaps netting as many as three free agents," the Tampa Bay Times reported.
