Following the end of Kanye West's "Yeezus" tour in North America, the hip-hop superstar announced that he will release a film about the world tour.
The announcement was made Thursday on his official website with the debut of a 30-second trailer. According to the teaser, "Yeezus" the movie will be "coming to theatres," however, a release date has not been disclosed.
The trailer features a collage of clips from the rapper's stage show including shots of lasers, mountains and his bejeweled masks, in addition to time-lapse skies and the galloping horses from his "Bound 2" music video. "Yeezus" will be directed by Hype Williams, who has shot more than a dozen of his videos, including "All of the Lights," "Stronger" and "Gold Digger," reports The Guardian.
Last week, novelist/screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis confirmed in that he is working with West on another film project. Ellis, who is best known for his books-turned-movies "American Psycho" and "Less Than Zero," revealed that he and West began collaborating on the scripted feature last year.
"I didn't want to at first," Ellis admitted during an interview with Noisey. "Then I listened to 'Yeezus' ... and I thought, regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this." However, he added that the film is lingering "in Kanye land," with a "whole other time-frame."
According to Radar Online, sources say the film is a biopic based on "a narrative of Kanye's life." Although West will not appear on screen, it shows a different side of his fiancée Kim Kardashian who has a "pivotal" role. "Her [part] is going to be very dramatic, far from the bubbly happy persona that she's always played," said insiders.
