Microsoft won't be removing Kinect from the Xbox One anytime soon.
Many have been critical of Microsoft's decision to make the Kinect a mandatory part of the Xbox One, but Xbox UK marketing chief Harvey Eagle has reiterated that an Xbox One without a Kinect "is not in our plans at all."
"As we've said from the very beginning, we believe Kinect is an absolutely integral part of the Xbox One experience," Eagle said, according to Eurogamer.
Some critics have pointed out how many Xbox One games do not use the Kinect; the primary function of the device seems to be voice controls. Others cite how the device drives the console's price up as well as privacy issues surrounding the kinect's motion tracking camera. Eagle said that Xbox One owners have been taking full advantage of the features Kinect brings to the system.
"Look at all the thousands and thousands of game clips that have been posted by gamers to Upload Studio, of their gaming highlights, captured by speaking the words 'Xbox record that', which has already become part of Xbox vocabulary," Eagle stated. "It's a really great example of how Kinect makes the experience on Xbox One even better."
While some may be disappointed with Microsoft's stance on Kinect, in some good news for the XBox One, Twitch CEO Emmett Shear announced that Twitch livestream broadcasts will be coming to the console on March 11, the same day that the heavily hyped Titanfall game is released, The Associated Press reported. Twitch allows users to create broadcasts of their gaming sessions to share with friends and strangers alike.
While Xbox One owners have been able to watch these broadcasts since the launch of the console, March 11 will mark the first date they can actually make their own livestreams. This appears to be another move by Microsoft to prepare the console for the release of Titanfall along with a March system update designed to improve the social aspects of the console.
The Xbox One version of Twitch will be different from the version found on the PlayStation 4. Players will have the option of joining the broadcaster's party while in the middle of the livestream, something that the PlayStation 4 does not support. However, PlayStation 4 owners can take heart in the fact that they can also use Ustream livestreaming while the Xbox One does not support the app yet.
