When "Nashville" returns, a new character will join the Southern-fried drama.
Scarlett's (Clare Bowen) mother/Deacon's (Chip Esten) sister will be appearing later on in the second season. While the part has not yet been cast, it is clear that Scarlett and her mother will have a very strained relationship.
On the latest episode of "Nashville" before its hiatus, Juliette became reclusive and a major character was killed off.
In "Too Far Gone," Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) is hiding from the world with Avery (Jonathan Jackson), with whom she finally began a romantic relationship.
While there, Deacon (Charles Esten) comes to Avery to ask him to engineer his "Live From the Bluebird" EP, which he's going to record later that week. Avery says yes, and celebrates with Juliette. While Avery's out, Juliette swaps Avery's furniture for chic, white pieces, which Avery is not too happy about when he gets home.
Tandy (Judith Hoag) confesses to Rayna (Connie Britton) that she was the government's star witness in helping Lamar's (Powers Boothe) prosecution because she found out he was involved in their mother's death.
Rayna then demands that her father tell her the truth. Lamar tells her that the night her mother was going to leave him, he got in the car and chased her down. She drove too fast because he was following her, and she crashed and flipped over. She was already dead once he got to her, so he panicked and went to Louisville. He also doesn't deny trying to murder Teddy (Eric Close).
Meanwhile, Gunnar (Sam Palladio) notices that something is going on between Will (Chris Carmack) and Brent. Will asks Jeff (Oliver Hudson) if he can be assigned to another Edgehill representative. Jeff says he'll be his new rep, and fires Brent.
Scarlett (Clare Bowen) is beginning what appears to be an addiction to pills. The pills she's taking almost cause her to sleep through a cameo appearance in Rayna's music video, and it's clear that she's becoming increasingly unstable.
Later, Deacon goes to his girlfriend's office and sees her holding hands with Teddy, leading him to believe that something is going on between them. He flies off the handle, and she asks him to leave. Deacon later apologizes to her over the phone. She then shows up at his Bluebird show to tell him she's dropped Teddy's case.
At the end of the hour, Lamar visits Teddy's office, and Teddy reveals to him that it was Tandy, not him, who was the star witness that helped the feds. Lamar gets so upset at the news that he has a physical reaction. He grabs his chest, collapses, and begs Teddy for help. Teddy doesn't move, and watches Lamar pass out on the floor.
When the series returns, Lamar's death will affect the characters, and Scarlett will take a new lover.
"They Don't Make 'Em Like My Daddy Anymore" airs Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
