The final event of Sochi Olympics Bobsleigh competition is scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday as 30 teams compete for the gold in the four-man bobsleigh event at the Sliding Center Sanki near Krasnaya Polyana, Russia.

As expected, the Russians and the Canadians are tapped as the favorites to take the top two spots on the podium with the United States and Switzerland emerging as wildcards.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's team, led by veteran John Jackson, will try to come up with a medal-worthy finish after bombing out of contention in the last Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Coming off a devastating Achilles tendon injury, the 36-year old Jackson will attempt to defy all odds in what could be his final Olympic appearance.

Investment and Experience - Project 50

Great Britain's stint at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics was marred with crashes by both its two-man and four-man bobsleigh teams. The horrific scene of Great Britain's failure to win the gold in one of the oldest disciplines in the Winter Games paved the way for the creation of Project 50.

It has been 50 years since Great Britain won the gold in bobsledding. The last Britons to pull it off were Tony Nash and Robin Dixon at the 1964 Innsbruck Games.

This weekend, Great Britain will finally see the results of their hard work and investments, and the country hopes it will be enough for them to end the country's medal drought in the bobsledding competition.

"The brain comes from McLaren Applied Technologies, a division of the Formula One giant, which signed a deal with British Bobsleigh in 2010 to provide access to the company's cutting-edge testing facilities and scientific know-how.The brawn comes in the shape of experienced pilot John Jackson, a Royal Marine physical training instructor with 17½ years' service under his belt, and three brakemen recruited from track and field to provide the explosive power and athleticism required to get the sled moving at the start," the Telegraph reported.
