Fans are still reveling in the wake of this past weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego. It served as the perfect platform for show's to elaborate on the biggest and most intriguing secrets of their upcoming seasons. One series that sparked major curiosity is the "Vampire Diaries" spin-off, "The Originals." It's Comic-Con panel made some rather lofty promises that made vampire fans even more eager for the new series' October debut.
For starters, the cast promised that "The Originals" would be no less than "10 times sexier and cooler" than it's counterpart, "The Vampire Diaries," according to TVLine. That's a bold statement considering the parent series is one of the sexiest fantasy dramas on television.
While the sex and coolness factors will be taken up a notch, Daniel Gillies, who plays Elijah, promised that the show would include "more tragic warfare" and Mafia-esque shifts of power. "Elijah wants his kingdom. He wants his brother on the throne," Gillies said.
Claire Holt, who plays Rebekah, also touched on her relationship with Klaus. She admitted that her character was always going to follow him to New Orleans, however, there will still be "turmoil and friction" between the pair.
"I think it's going to be a lot more about family. The writing always returns to family. The bonds and, dare I say it, sometimes the manacles of family," Gillies said in a previous interview while comparing the show to "The Vampire Diaries." "I think it's going to be a little darker. I think it's going to be a little bit more adult."
That makes sense, as Elijah and the other Originals are older than most of "The Vampire Diaries" cast, but Gillies assures that there's more to it.
"Well actually, [Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon] is the same age as us," he said. "Even though we're supposed to be hundreds of years old and in theory there's not much difference in age between us and the other vamps, I think we still have to write accordingly, especially when you're writing new lovers into a story."
Amidst all the hype, fans cannot wait for the series premiere, which is set for October 15.
