Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls will introduce two new social features to the game when the expansion is released on March 25 on the PC. Developer Blizzard will introduce both Clans and Communities to the game to help players find people with similar interests in Diablo 3.

"With Clans and Communities, we're providing players with easy and practical tools for finding and communicating with like-minded individuals who share a passion for demon slaying, loot hunting, experience farming, as well as other interests," Blizzard stated in a Battle.net post announcing the news.

Clans are a popular feature in video games, and Diablo 3 will allow users to form small groups that have similar interests or schedules in the game. Anyone can try to join a Clan, however, Clans are exclusive and are meant to connect individuals rather than form a massive conglomerate.

"With a member limit of 120 players, clans are intended to be smaller and invitation only. This means that while you can send a request to join a clan, you will not technically become a member unless you are invited or your request to join the clan is accepted. Also, while anyone can create or join a clan, you can only be a member of one clan at any given time," explained Blizzard. 

While Clans are more focused groups, Communities in Diablo 3 are meant to be much more casual collections of players. The cap for Communities is much higher than those for Clans and players can be in as many Communities as they want. Communities can have a wide variety of themes that do not necessarily have to concern Diablo 3, according to Blizzard.

"Communities are designed to be a place where players can come together for any number of reasons, including playing the same class, frequenting the same fan sites, or living in the same geographical area. They're all about fostering relationships between like-minded people, with a keen focus on socialization."

These features should help Diablo 3 fans connect in a wide variety of ways once the features come with the Reaper of Souls expansion. The new features will include several new tabs for news, roster, and settings to reflect the new social aspects of Diablo 3. Besides these new features, Reaper of Souls will also include a wide variety of new content such as a new class of character.
