The Phoenix Suns have been the most surprising team this season, and they are expected to shore up their roster further before the Feb. 20 deadline.

Basketball Insiders reported that the Suns will look to trade for a veteran before Thursday's deadline, with sources saying that Cleveland Cavaliers forward Luol Deng is the Suns' top trade target.

According to reports, Deng's name is expected to be mentioned in talks before the deadline. Aside from the Suns, the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats, and the Washington Wizards are also interested in acquiring the veteran small forward.

"Because there are very few All-Star caliber players available at this year's deadline, the Cavaliers may be able to create a bidding war for Deng's services. He would be an upgrade for the Suns, Bobcats, Wizards and Pistons at the small forward position," Basketball Insiders noted.

Among the interested bidders, the Suns have the upper hand because of their attractive assets. Phoenix could give up young assets to the rebuilding Cavaliers along with one of their four possible first round picks in the 2014 NBA Draft.

To make the deal work in terms of salary, the Suns are expected to include veteran center Emeka Okafor in any deal involving their future assets. Okafor's contract will expire after the current season.

Reports suggested that the Cavaliers are expected to shop Deng again before the deadline - less than two months since acquiring the 28-year-old forward in a trade with the Chicago Bulls last month.

Deng, who is averaging 17.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season, will become a free agent this summer.

The Cavaliers are reportedly leaning toward not keeping Deng, with reports saying that new Cavaliers general manager David Griffin would consider moving the veteran for a high draft pick this year.

"As Griffin tries to put his own fingerprints on the Cavaliers, rival executives believe that his best move would be trading away the team's veterans and trying to land a top pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Cavaliers aren't going anywhere this season, so why not try to pick high in the draft again, this time with a new decision-maker making the selection?" Basketball Insiders noted.
