Amir Khan is expected to land a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and the British boxing star feels that he can hand the undefeated Mayweather his first-ever loss.
Khan told BoxingScene on Saturday that his style could put Mayweather in deep trouble if they collide on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Khan admitted that Mayweather will be a tough nut to crack, but the Bolton native insisted that Mayweather looked great in his recent fights only because he went up against fighters who love to come forward.
"Styles make fights. We've seen Floyd go against guys who come forward, pressure fighters. We've not really seen him go against guys who are quick, who have quick foot work," Khan said.
The 27-year-old Briton added that Mayweather has had a lot of problems against quick fighters before, citing the reigning-pound-for-pound king's showdown with Zab Judah in 2006.
"We've seen him a few times, against the likes of Zab Judah being quick and other fighters who were quick, who caused him a lot of problems, who had a good jab and good clean, crisp punches. That's what I bring to the table. I'm a different style and that's why I think I would give Floyd a lot of problems -- the movement, the explosiveness," Khan said.
The former light welterweight champion also took a swipe at Marcos Maidana, who is also being considered as Mayweather's opponent for his next fight.
Khan, who edged Maidana in the recent poll made by the reigning pound-for-pound king, said that the Argentinian champion will not be a huge threat to Mayweather.
Khan pointed out that Maidana's fighting style is tailor-made for the 36-year-old Grand Rapids native, and that his lack of speed makes him an easy target.
"He's made for Floyd Mayweather," Khan said on Maidana. "People want to see Floyd against a different style. People may think I'm talking rubbish, but if you think about the last three opponents that Floyd faced, they had slow feet, slow hands. No disrespect they are great fighters but that [type of style] suits Floyd Mayweather."
