Halo 5 will finally be released in 2015—at least according to the man who voices Master Chief.

Steve Downes, who has voiced the iconic character for the entire series, recently revealed that the highly-anticipated game will not appear on the Xbox One during 2014.

"I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5," Downes told GameZone. "I wouldn't expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2."

This seems to confirm rumors that 343 Industries would not have the next installment of the series ready in time for 2014, and the Halo game teased at E3 would be the anniversary edition of Halo 2 set to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary. When Microsoft teased a "Halo 2014" game at the event, many had assumed that this would be Halo 5. However, the company was very vague concerning the title; the only confirmed news about Halo 5 was that the beta was expected to begin sometime in late 2014.

"We can confirm your next Halo journey will begin in 2014, but beyond that, we don't have any details to share at this time," a Microsoft representative told Gamespot. This purposefully vague message could confirm that the company will release the Halo 2 anniversary edition instead of Halo 5 and do not want to admit it quite yet.

While Halo 2 was a fine game, it is not exactly what fans want when it comes to future titles in the series. After all, many had hoped that a new Halo title would be available soon after the launch of the Xbox One, and if early adopters have to wait until 2015, it may anger them. In addition, those who are waiting for the Xbox One to have a better library of games may delay buying the console until Halo 5 has a confirmed release date.

In any case, it is only a matter of time before Halo 5 is confirmed. Until then, the re-release of Halo 2 will have to due for those looking for a next-gen entry to the series.
