Kevin Durant will not become a free agent until the summer of 2016, but several teams are already positioning themselves and planning to make a strong push to acquire the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar forward.

When asked about the future of Durant in Oklahoma City, Thunder coach Scott Brooks played down recent speculation, telling NBA.com on Wednesday that he believes the 25-year-old will not leave Oklahoma City.

Brooks, whose contract will also run out after the 2015-16 NBA season, insisted that it is way too early to talk about what could happen three years from now, saying that they are focused on the current task at hand, which is to win the NBA championship this season.

"All the rhetoric about what's going to happen three years from now, I kind of smirk and laugh about it," Brooks said. "It's crazy. Who knows? What our team believes in is what I believe in. I believe in coming to work every day, I believe in giving your best, I believe in being solid on and off the court."

While most analysts are saying that Durant may not become a free agent at all in 2016, as the Thunder are expected to offer an extension, the Brooklyn Nets are already preparing to make a run at signing the three-time NBA scoring champion.

"The impending Durant free agency bonanza should start picking up steam next season and will undoubtedly engulf the NBA in the summer of 2016. And make no mistake: the Nets are targeting Durant, the 25-year-old offensive juggernaut, even if it's too early to predict their odds," the New York Daily News reported late last month.

Earlier this month, the Washington Post also reported that the Washington Wizards were expected to make a strong push to convince the Washington, D.C.-born Durant to play for his hometown team.

According to the report, Wizards All-Star point guard John Wall has already started making a pitch to the superstar forward with the vision of Wall and Durant forming a deadly duo in Washington starting in 2016-17 NBA season.

When asked if he was willing to play in front of his hometown fans in the future, Durant declined to talk about it, reiterating that he is happy in Oklahoma City.

"I don't even want to think about that. I haven't given it any thought, playing up here. I love Oklahoma City," said Durant, who is averaging 31.2 points to go along with 7.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game this season.
