Final Fantasy 15 is far along in development and could appear sooner rather than later, according to one of the men in charge of the upcoming video game.

Final Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the game is "quite far into development" and that developer Square Enix has given the long delayed project "very high priority" status within the company, VideoGamer reported.

The producer also discussed Final Fantasy 15 in comparison to Kingdom Hearts 3, which was announced along with Final Fantasy 15 at E3 2013. "We can't give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it's not as if it's in competition with Kingdom Hearts 3 for resources or anything like that," Kitase said.

This is good news for fans of the game who originally became excited when the game was first announced as Final Fantasy Versus 13 in 2006. Despite the change in title, much of the story will be the same according to Kitase, and the Fabulla Nova Crystallis mythology originally introduced for the Final Fantasy 13 series will still inform much of Final Fantasy 15.

"...Even though it's not necessarily the same universe or the same game, they're all linked and underpinned by the backdrop of that legend," added Kitase. "Now it's moved on - obviously the title's been changed to Final Fantasy XV - but that hasn't actually changed. The story and the world is still going to be linked and backed up by that. So yes, there is the link between XIII and XV, and they both share that mythology as a backdrop and a starting point."

As for how the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 could improve both Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3, Kitase said that "We are quite aware of [PS4 & Xbox One's] capabilities and certainly one thing that's going to come up is having battles with a lot more participants involved," and that "Having a lot more characters, a lot more things happening, that's one of the things that the new hardware does really well."

If Square Enix is indeed far along with Final Fantasy 15, then the game could be one of the early highlights for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, considering that the game has taken years to reach this point, many people may be hesitant to get excited for the game until Square Enix announces a solid a release date for the game.
