A new update for the Xbox One that seeks to improve the multiplayer and social aspects of the console will arrive in March along with a new headset and stereo headset adapter for the system.
"Our March Xbox One system update will start rolling out in early March," Xbox Corporate Vice President Marc Whitten said in a statement to IGN. "We're excited to get these multiplayer and party improvements out in time for the March 11 launch of 'Titanfall,' the highly anticipated team-based online multiplayer game."
Based on this statement, users should expect to receive this update before Titanfall is released. Users who download the update will find that their friends list will have moved to the center of the friends tab, and will have the option to either use the voice command "Xbox, go to Friends" or click on the social title on the homepage to see who is online. These improvements will be a blessing for Xbox One owners going forward as more and more people buy the console to replace the aging Xbox 360 and more multiplayer titles such as Titanfall, Fable Legends, and a new Halo title are released on the machine.
In addition to these improvements, the update will turn on party chat audio as soon as a user joins a party, and users will be able to chat with people outside of the game within the party once the update is downloaded. Microsoft will also add an option to game menus to invite friends into multiplayer titles.
To help foster communication between Xbox One users Microsoft will also release a new headset designed specifically for the Xbox One available in March for $80. The Xbox One Stereo Headset will feature an unidirectional microphone, over the ear speakers, and a detachable stereo headset adapter. If you've already purchased a gaming headset, then you can buy the stereo headset adapter separately for $25. This will allow the existing headset to receive chat audio. However, game audio will require a direct connection to the Xbox One or the TV to function properly.
With these improvements coming to the Xbox One in March, gamers have a lot to look forward to in the spring. The new system update and headset options will make the Xbox One a much more attractive console for multiplayer fans.
