The much-awaited fifth fight between Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez and Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao is becoming a possibility after Top-Rank head promoter Bob Arum confirmed that "Dinamita" is open to face the Pacman should he beat Timothy Bradley in his next fight.
In an interview with Hustle Boss, Arum admitted that he's very much interested to arrange a fifth showdown between Marquez and Pacquiao. Arum said that Marquez already told him that he's open to face the winner of the Pacquiao-Bradley slugfest on April 12 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"I would love to do Pacquiao-Marquez," Arum told Hustle Boss. "Pacquiao has to win this fight and Marquez says he'll fight him. So it's a big incentive for Pacquiao...He'll fight the winner of this fight to win the belt."
Desire to Be Fifth Division Champ
Arum said Marquez hasn't retired yet because he's still looking to become a five-division world champion, which would make him the first Mexican to pull off such an accomplishment inside the ring.
The veteran promoter added Marquez's desire to be a champion before he finally closes the curtain on his legendary career could be a big factor in arranging a potentially lucrative Marquez-Pacquiao rumble later this year.
"Marquez really wants only one thing before he retires," Arum said. "He wants to win that [WBO welterweight] title. And he has indicated to us that he would be very available to fight the winner of the Pacquiao and Bradley in the fall...He's [Marquez] obviously changed his tune [about not wanting to fight Pacquiao again]."
Good for Arum's Business
Boxing 24 pundit Chris Williams believed Arum felt happy to learn that Marquez finally had a change of heart with regards to fighting Pacman again. The Mexican repeatedly turned down the chance to fight Pacquiao again last year, but his willingness to duke it out with his rival is certainly good news for Arum's business.
"I bet Arum is very happy about Marquez changing his mind about the possibility of fighting Pacquiao for a 5th time, because he's really the only guy that Arum has in his Top Rank stable that can help Pacquiao bring in over 1 million buys at this point in his career," Williams stated.
